It has been the tradition for the last few years in this house to make a special Valentine's Day treat with Lily! Our first year here Lily and I made cookies, and she helped me decorate them, then last year she helped me make and decorate cupcakes. This Lily and I made heart cookie lollipops! Lately Lily has really gotten into cooking with me, and I've been letting her do more and more of the work herself. So yesterday when we made the cookies, it really was Lily, doing most of the work! I helped with measuring, and reading the recipe, but Lily really did everything else! I'm so proud of her!

She used the hand mixer by herself for the first time! She did a really great job with it! I admit I was standing there about 2 inches away, ready to grab her if she moved her hands near the bowl at all...but she was really good and never put her hands in any place that was dangerous at all! She a natural!
She also wanted to crack the egg by herself! She was banging the top of the egg on the edge of the bowl repeatedly. Lucking it didn't break, and I was able to guide her hands to crack it properly! I love the interest she's taking in learning everything about baking though!

I love cooking with my little chef! It's really amazing to me how much she has learned about cooking since we started 2 years ago! She now make her own sandwiches, can pour herself drinks, and can get herself cereal, and when we cook together she is doing more and more of the work! I love it!! I can't wait until the twins are at the age where they can start helping me in the kitchen too! I think I may have to figure out some special spring or summer treat this year so they can get their first try at cookie decorating in a few months!
