I have always been fascinated by the beauty of these gray pumpkins and hubbard squashes. There is something about them that I find so beautiful in a spooky haunting way. Orange pumpkins are happy, and playful with their bright colors, but these are melodically and seem like they have a dark secret. And I find them absolutely stunning! Until this year, I've been pining over gray pumpkins like this one in my many October issues of Martha Stewart Living, wishing I would someday find a farm that sold them. Well last weekend, at Jones Farm (Working on that blog already!) I FINALLY found a farmer who sells them! All week I've been antsy to take some pictures of the one I picked out (Which was picked out in about 10 seconds, and grabbed hastily and ran back to Sean who was checking out, while balancing Violet in my other arm! WE were late for our photo shoot with our photographer Kelli Dease, but I just had to bring home one of those pumpkins! Violet loved the crazy run though...so it was all worth it...and I think I picked out a pretty good one with how quickly I did it!) It's been raining though all week, so I've left my precious pumpkin in the car, to keep it from getting wet. I was so excited today that it wasn't raining, and I finally got the chance to take some pictures of it! I took so many pictures, it was hard to choose just one or two that I liked the most...so here are all my favorites. I also had a hard time deciding what white balance I wanted to use, because they all brought a different mood to the pumpkin. So I edited these in different ways. Let me know which one you like...and what white balance you think works best!
Auto white balance:
Sunny Day White Balance:
And Cloudy white balance:
Cloudy was what I shot in, because it was cloudy out...but I think the auto works the best with it, giving the squash a blue tone, and makes it moodier looking I think. Though in reality the squash is more of a green like it shows in sun and cloud balances. Either way, I'm pretty pleased with how they all turned out!
