Violet Anne, One Year Old

Dear Violet,

How are you already one?!? Where has the time gone? I feel like it was just yesterday we were waiting around for you to join your sister in the outside world, and then struggling to figure out nursing together!! This year has been so wonderful with you in it though. We've watched you grow from this quiet, tiny little newborn, into a wonderfully outgoing, and happy baby (or I guess toddler now :( ) It's amazing how much you changed in this past year! I never expected you to be the outgoing and social twin, but you are! You still love your snuggles though, with I am deeply grateful for! I could snuggle with you forever!

This month has been a particular big one for you, because you learned to walk!!!! Your journey to walking this month started on November 18th, when you stood up in the middle of the room all by your self for the first time! We were in the kitchen, and you just stood up! I was so excited for you! I knew then that walking wouldn't be that far behind. Over November and early December, you perfected standing up, to the point where you were doing it often. On December 1st I noted that I though you were getting really close to walking. You were walking fine along the wall, and started to try letting go, and looking like you were going to take a step!! I knew it would be soon!

On December 12th, it finally happened!! We were all in the living room, and out of the corner of my eye I say you stand, and both Daddy and I quickly turned to look, and both saw you take to beautiful first steps!! We were all so excited for you!! I can't believe my little baby is walking!! Those were the only 2 steps you took that day, and the next could days you didn't take any either, until December 15th, when you took your second step of steps. You took 3 that time! YAY!! I just can not believe you are already there! I swear it was just yesterday you were rolling over for the first time!

Beyond the excitement of your first steps, this month has been pretty quiet developmentally. You have been focusing everything on that! You have been talking a lot, but I never recorded down when you said each word first, so I am recording all those words down in your 13 month blog (since I am writing this so very very late...I'm so sorry sweetie!) I know you were saying kitty, thank you, bear, baby, hi, bye, book, read, uh oh, and mama and dada by one year. You seem to be picking things up like crazy! We also had a very cute moment with you and Ella signing baby together! You love the baby signing time song, and always sign baby with me. On December 2nd, you and Ella were eating lunch and both started signing baby with me, and you were saying "baba" while signing it! Not long after, you started saying "baby", and it became a favorite word of yours for a while! It was right around your birthday that it because your new favorite word, and when you got your baby for your birthday, you were so excited, and kept saying baby over and over again, while giving it kisses! It was just so sweet!

You did try to give me a heart attack this month. On December 1st, I was upstairs putting Lily down for a nap (or trying desperately to get her to fall asleep, since she doesn't really nap well anymore! ) when I started hearing loud bangs from you girls down stairs. Worried about what you were doing, I can down stairs, and had the shock of a life time when I saw where you were! I walked into the dinning room, and there you were...sitting right in the middle of the table, playing with a bottle of ketchup! I screamed! I have no idea how you got yourself up there! Scared the heck out of me though! You were as happy as a clam, and just laughed at me! You crazy kid! Thankfully you haven't climbed up since. I've also learned to make sure all chairs are pushed in now, just in case!

On December 17th we had your 1 year check up with the doctor. You weighted in at 16lbs (which I really hope is wrong, since you had to be weighted on the big scale) and are 29 and 3/4 inches long! Tall skinny girl! you completely fell off the growth charts for weight, and are in the 70-75% for height. You even out grew Ella by a teeny tiny bit! Our doctor is concerned with how small you are though, and had told up to start drowning everything we give you in butter. I hate that she wont accept that you are just a smaller girl. Hopefully she will next month when we go back for another weight check. I think you are just happy and healthy, and you burn through all your food with all that crazy energy you have! Otherwise she said you are perfect, just thin. You did well with you shots...you cried for a bit, and then calmed down. We were very proud of you for being such a trooper!

For food, I believe banana is your favorite! You gobble them down quicker then anything I've ever seen! You and your sister just love them! You also love chicken, pasta, and oranges. You love to steal my food too. Unfortunately you also have a habit of either throwing your food, or sneakily putting it on Ella's high chair. No wonder you are so thin! We are trying to work on that!

For sleep, you have been giving Daddy a hard time lately. You sleep in Lily's bed with him every night, and he says you wake up a lot. You've stopped nursing (you were biting...) and are more use to Daddy at night now, so there isn't much I can do to help either of you out. I feel bad though, because obviously you are teething again. I hope you get a tooth soon! And hopefully soon you both start sleeping better!

You continue to just adore your sisters! I love seeing the three of you together! You love to chase after them, and girl them hugs and kisses. I think you really look up to them, and I can see the love in your eyes when you look at each of them! I can't believe how luck I am to watch the three of you grow up together! I hope you always love them as much as you do right now!

We love you so much Violet! I just am so lucky, and so blessed to have such a wonderfully smart and funny toddler in my life! I really look forward to seeing how you grow this year, and what you learn...and I'm really looking forward to seeing you as a big sister! This will be a big year for you...I can feel it! I am so proud of how far you have come, but also so sad that your first year is already over! Daddy and I love you so much sweetie...don't grow up to fast on us! Happy Birthday my beautiful princess!

Love always,
Mommy
